How does the program work?
AfterSchool Programs and Summer Camps provide safe and fun programs to children by teaching them how to lead healthy, responsible, and moral lives. Emphasis is placed on building relationships with God, one another, and with positive, caring adults.
UrbanPromise Children’s ministry goes beyond just running great programs; what makes our ministry different from other social service programs are the relationships our staff build with each of the kids. Getting to know a child outside of scheduled program time is extremely important to our staff. They visit children’s houses, go to kids’ performances at school, watch kids’ sporting events, and visit kids when they are in the hospital. Through meaningful relationships, each child is supported and taught how to lead a purposeful life.
- Sharing the Good News: Staff share & demonstrate the Gospel with relevant activities and their own lives.
- Building relationships: Our programs use Biblical concepts to teach and reinforce social skills.
- Focusing on education: Provide time and help for homework and educational activities.
- Providing a safe & fun place: Each neighborhood-based site is a safe, fun haven where children are treated with respect.
- Coming alongside each child in their life outside the program: Our staff members attend school activities, encourage family relationships, and provide support & encouragements.
- Providing new experiences: Expanding the “world” of each child by exposing them to new places & activities.
- Instilling & teaching morals: We help each child understand and abide by a standard of right and wrong.
- Providing a creative outlet: A child is given opportunities to sing, dance, draw, and CREATE.
- Giving each child opportunities to excel: A broad range of activities in such areas of sports, art, drama, speech, academics, etc. We offer a child the opportunity to succeed.
- Instilling a sense of hope and a future: Diverse, meaningful experiences expose each child to future possibilities.
- Teaching responsibility: We teach each child responsibility-- for themselves, the people around them, their community & beyond.
- Ministering to the families: Offering encouragement to families of the program by supporting their children, encouraging involvement in local church, and “coming alongside” as needed.
